Infant Care 101
Feel more prepared to bring your baby home.
Bringing home a newborn can be exciting - and a little intimidating. How do you safely hold and bathe such a tiny baby? What does newborn sleep actually look like? How do you know what's normal...and when something might not be?
Infant Care 101 is a practical, hands-on prenatal workshop designed to help you feel more comfortable and confident caring for your baby during those first days and weeks at home.
You'll learn what to expect from your newborn, practice essential care skills before your baby arrives, and have plenty of time to ask questions along the way.
What You'll Learn
During this two-hour workshop, Lindsay will cover:
What newborns look and act like during the first days and weeks
Diapering, bathing, skin care, umbilical cord care, and other everyday newborn care
Safe ways to hold, position, carry, and soothe your baby
Newborn sleep patterns, safe sleep, and creating a safer sleep environment
Hunger, fullness, sleepy, and overstimulation cues
What to expect with diapers, temperature, and other signs of your baby's well-being
Common newborn concerns, when to call your pediatrician, and when to seek more immediate care
Learn by Doing
You won't just hear about newborn care - you'll have the opportunity to practice it before your baby arrives.
Using infant dolls and newborn-care supplies, Lindsay will guide you through hands-on practice with skills like diapering, swaddling, holding and positioning, soothing, temperature taking, and other everyday newborn care.
It's a chance to try things, ask questions, and become more familiar with caring for a newborn before you're doing it for the first time with your own baby.
Partners Are Part of the Conversation
Partners and support people are strongly encouraged to attend—and participate.
You'll practice newborn-care skills together and learn ways to share in the day-to-day care of your baby from the very beginning.
Who Is This Workshop For?
Infant Care 101 is especially helpful for first-time parents, but it's also a great refresher if it's been a while since you've cared for a newborn or you simply want to feel more prepared this time around.
Grandparents or other support people are welcome to attend with an expectant parent as well.
You don't need to know everything before your baby arrives. The goal is to give you a strong foundation, practical experience, and a better sense of what to expect once you're home together.
